In June this year, the maiden edition of the Falling Walls Lab Ghana competition was organised by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Accra. Mr Dickson Adjei, a BSc Minerals Engineering graduate of UMaT won the competition that also had other students of UMaT placing 3rd and 5th. Mr. Adjei presented a project entitled “Breaking the wall of mercury pollution: The Latern Retort”. His prize is a Brussels Airlines sponsored trip to Berlin, Germany to represent Ghana in the International Falling Walls Lab on 8th November, 2016.

The Falling Walls Lab competition is a challenging and interdisciplinary platform that offers the opportunity for excellent academics and professionals to present their innovative ideas, research projects and social initiatives. A prestigious jury from science and business awards the best participants.

At a short ceremony to present his certificate to the Vice Chancellor, Prof J.S.Y. Kuma, the Vice Chancellor reiterated the point that it was as a result of the quality of UMaT’s programmes of study which continue to improve and impress year in year out because of the devotion of the staff to duty. This makes UMaT’s graduates competitive giving them the edge in the academic programmes they engage in with peers from other institutions of higher learning in similar disciplines resulting in the laurels they win in the competitions they participate in.
