The BSc Petroleum Engineering Programme aims at providing firm grounding in concepts of Petroleum Engineering disciplines and related courses to reflect the sophisticated and fast-evolving technologies employed in petroleum exploitation. Students will be equipped in skills needed to create and apply innovative technologies in petroleum industry operations to meet the requirements of the Ghanaian and international petroleum and allied industries.

The main objectives of the programme are to:

1. Equip students with the technical knowledge and skills required to analyse, interpret and solve problems in the petroleum industry by using modern techniques, engineering tools, research, and innovation;
2. Train students to develop critical thinking and analytical abilities to understand the complexities associated with petroleum exploration and production, and proffer scientific solutions; and
3. Equip students with communication and soft skills to function effectively in the global petroleum engineering profession; and Provide students with the requisite skills to pursue lifelong learning through continuing education or postgraduate education in petroleum engineering and related programmes.

The Certificate in Drilling Fluids Technology is designed to produce personnel capable of applying scientific and technical skills in designing drilling fluids for shallow, deep and complex high-pressure wells as well as addressing the associated environmental and safety issues.

The objectives are to:

1. 1. i. Train students to acquire an in-depth understanding of the principles of drilling fluids technology; and
   2. Prepare students to take up jobs in the oil and gas industry.

BSc Natural Gas Engineering was added as one of the engineering programmes of the Department in the 2020/2021 academic year. It aims at providing firm grounding in concepts of Natural Gas Engineering disciplines and related courses to reflect the complex technologies employed in gas exploitation, processing, transportation and marketing. It is also to meet the gas demand for industrial and domestic consumption and internal electricity generation.

The main objectives of the programme are to:

1. Equip students with the technical knowledge and skills required to solve real-world natural gas engineering problems and related environmental issues;
2. Equip students with the required communication and soft skills to function effectively in the global natural gas engineering profession; and
3. Provide students with the requisite skills to pursue higher degrees in natural gas engineering and related programmes.

The PgD in Petroleum Engineering aims at producing graduates with knowledge and technical skills needed to cope with the complexities associated with petroleum engineering and related safety issues and to earn employment in the petroleum industry.

The objectives of the PgD in Petroleum Engineering are to:

1. Equip students with the knowledge and technical skills needed to cope with the complexities associated with petroleum engineering and related safety issues;
2. Train students with competencies required to take up jobs in the petroleum industry or government agency; and
3. Prepare students for further studies in Petroleum Engineering.

The MSc in Petroleum Engineering programme focuses on producing qualified graduate with strong theoretical foundations and technical knowledge needed to take up technical leadership roles within the petroleum industry and government agency.

The objectives of the MSc in Petroleum Engineering are to:

1. Prepare students to cope with the complexities associated with the Exploration and Production (E&P) of oil and gas and the related environmental issues;
2. Enhance the diversification and competence of personnel in the fast-evolving technologies employed in petroleum exploitation;
3. Equip students with the needed skills to appraise and select the appropriate technologies for safe petroleum operations; and
4. Train students to succeed as technical experts in petroleum industry or government agency.

The aim of the PhD in Petroleum Engineering is to provide students with advanced training in research that leads to the highest level of scholarly achievement, and enable them to conduct research independently.

The objectives of the PhD in Petroleum Engineering, in addition to the objectives of MSc and MPhil in Petroleum Engineering are to train:

1. Students to demonstrate proficiency in the professional skills needed to become competent researchers, professors, and scientist in the petroleum industry and academia; and
2. Students to be capable of directing teams and students towards modern trends in research.

The MPhil in Petroleum Engineering programme focuses on producing qualified graduate engineers with strong theoretical and experimental foundations to succeed as technical expert in industry, government agency and as instructor in academia.

The objectives of the MPhil in Petroleum Engineering, in addition to the objectives of MSc in Petroleum Engineering are to:

1. Equip students with scientific and technical engineering knowledge to identify, formulate, and solve research challenges;
2. Provide students with the skills to work effectively across multiple disciplines;
3. Equip students with the required skills to address the needs of society in a critical, creative, ethical, and innovative manner; and
4. Train students to apply petroleum engineering principles and technology in a focused area expected of experts in the field.
